6 Human Foods For Dogs

6-Human-Foods-Dogs-Can-Eat copyIf you’re like us, you might be guilty of slipping your dog just a few table scraps once in a great while. It’s hard not to, right?

But, if you’re like us, you also want your pup to be healthy. Can you offer the best of both worlds: tasty human food that’s also pretty good for your dog?

These six cuisines prove that you can.

How could you say no to that face?

1. A Delicious Part of This Complete Breakfast: EGGS

Just bust out the pan and give them a little scramble. Eggs are full of healthy protein and a source of some great minerals for your dog, like selenium.

2. Tis the Season: PUMPKIN

Any companion who gets a scoop of pumpkin in his dish is one lucky dog. A great source of fiber and beta carotene, pumpkin supports gastrointestinal health –in addition to being delicious.

3. Fishing for scraps: SALMON

What could be better than sharing your dinner with Fido? Sharing a healthy dinner with Fido! Salmon will probably have your dog drooling under the table, anyway, so why not toss him a bone (or in this case, a hunk of meat or your unwanted fish skin) and let him have at it? It’s an excellent source of omega 3 fatty acids.

4. A Potato By Any Other Name: SWEET POTATOES

We are huge fans of these super foods. Just get rid of the skin and cook these up a bit to make them taste better. They’re ideal for human consumption, but a lot of the nutrients humans need, so too do dogs. Vitamins E, A, B-6 and C, plus calcium, iron, potassium and thiamine will support your pup’s overall wellness.

5. Zesty Refreshment and a Bit of Zing: ORANGES

Oranges were my dog Sadie’s favorite human treat. They pack in magnesium, thiamine, and folate and also contain flavonoids and free radical scavengers. We know how good they taste to us – now just imagine if your sense of smell was even better! Citrus heaven.

6. Say Please, Say: CHEESE

Yum. We Vermonters are a bit partial to this one. Dogs really like cheese, too. Dogs, like humans, can be lactose intolerant, so testing their reactions to cheese is always a good idea. If you want to give them the protein benefits, opt for cottage cheese. If they’re looking for a treat – might we suggest a small bite of cheddar?
